IIHS gives safety awards to 101 vehicles
Which 2019 vehicles were ranked the safest according to the IIHS?
The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) is made up of people that are dedicated to seeing the number of losses due to car accidents decrease. They define losses as deaths, property losses, and injuries. Originally founded in 1959, the IIHS wanted to give an incentive to automakers for creating vehicles that were safe. Fast forward today, many different make and model vehicles have received either a Top Safety Pick award or a Top Safety Pick+ award. Which 2019 vehicles were ranked the safest according to the IIHS? How does a vehicle win a safety award?
As mentioned above, there are two awards that a vehicle could win. The first is a Top Safety Pick award. To win this, a vehicle must receive the following scores on the following crash tests: acceptable or good headlights and passenger-side small overlap front test; good rating for driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints; and advanced or superior in front crash preventions.
The other award a vehicle could receive is a Top Safety Pick+. To win this award, a vehicle must have the following scores for the following tests: good for headlights, driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints; and an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.
