What is a VIN Number and Where is it Located?
Where Can I Find the VIN Number on my Car?
If you weren’t aware, each car has its own vehicle identification number (VIN). Each VIN number is unique, as it essentially acts as a fingerprint of sorts for each vehicle. VIN numbers are 17-characters long, unless they came before 1981, which varied the VIN number from 11-17 characters. In case you needed to know your car’s VIN, where can you find the VIN number on your car?
The VIN number can be found on the dashboard on the driver’s side of your vehicle where the dashboard meets the windshield. The easiest way to read the number is to stand outside the vehicle on the same side. However, if the VIN number isn’t there, the VIN could also be seen by opening the driver’s side door and looking at the door post near where the door latches closed. Insurance cards and the vehicle title and registration should also have the car’s VIN number.
