National Sheepdog Competition Comes to Middletown

When is the 2017 National Sheepdog Finals Near Winchester VA? 

This year, the Belle Grove Plantation in Middletown, VA, is hosting the United States Border Collie Handlers’ Association (USBCHA) National Sheepdog Finals. There, contestants and attendees get to see the best working sheepdogs and handlers from all over the country. So when is the 2017 Sheepdog Finals near Winchester, VA? 

The 2017 National Sheepdog Finals will take place from Sept. 26 – Oct. 1, and will test dogs in the same kinds of chores handlers have their dogs perform daily at their own farms. The competition is also extremely tight for the event, as only 150 sheepdogs will be able to qualify to become the North American Champion.  

Sheepdogs get their name of course because they are commonly used on farms to manage livestock. These include tasks such as help raise sheep, guard sheep, and are even used for herding. The dogs competing at this year’s competition will demonstrate the result of many hours of training and various generations of dog breeding.

Adult tickets will cost interested attendees $14 per day, or they can purchase a 6-day pass for $60, or a 3-day pass for $36. Children aged 7-16, as well as those 65 and older will pay $7 per day, as well as $30 and $18 respectively. However, children aged six and under will be free of charge to see the show.
