What’s Showing at the 2017 Shenandoah Summer Music Theater?
Each summer, the Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre returns to the area to offer fun and family friendly shows each summer season. The non-profit theater group is entering its 34th year of performing in Winchester, as the shows attract up to 30,000 people each season from all Virginia, as well as throughout the East Coast. With three musicals being performed this summer, what’s showing at the 2017 Shenandoah Summer Music Theater?
Oklahoma!
The popular musical “Oklahoma!” kicked off the summer event back in late June. The romantic story of the rivalry between farmers and cowboys and is based on the play “Green Grow the Lilacs” by Lynn Riggs. Unfortunately, “Oklahoma!” wrapped up back on July 2.
Beauty and the Beast
Based on the extremely popular Disney story, the Shenandoah Summer Music Theater’s rendition of the “Beauty and the Beast” is currently showing through July 16. While the story is well known by most, the Theater is springing new life into the classic story of Belle and the intimidating Beast.

Hairspray
Following “Beauty and the Beast” is the final showing of the summer: the popular musical “Hairspray.” “Hairspray” became an even bigger musical hit after the show was inspired by the John Waters film, released back in 1988. The musical follows the story of Tracy Turnblad and her dreams to appear on a popular television show and become popular among her peers. “Hairspray” will be performed for interested attendees from July 20-30, and will then conclude the 2017 Shenandoah Summer Music Theater.
