If it is safe, it is important to turn off the engine, get out of your car and get to a safe place on the side of the road if possible. It is also important to check on others involved to make sure they are not seriously injured.

Take Pictures and Call the Local Police

If you have a smartphone or camera handy, be sure to take pictures of the scene, damage done to the vehicles involved and of any possible injuries. Especially if people are injured, call the local police department to the scene to get an official police report of the accident.
