The 2021 Honda Clarity comes in two forms: plug-in hybrid and fuel cell. We’ll be focusing on the latter. A fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), like the 2021 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, uses hydrogen to create electricity. That electricity then powers an electric motor. For the most part, an FCEV operates the same way as EV does, providing many of the same of advantages other EVs do, like zero-emission operation and instant acceleration.

Why Choose an FCEV Over an EV?
FCEVs come with many advantages. For starters, FCEVs are refilled, not recharged. When you refill a FCEV, you’re pumping liquid hydrogen into a reservoir, exactly like how you’d fill a gas tank. So, refilling takes just a couple minutes. By comparison, even DC fast charging stations take around 30-40 minutes to get to 80% charge. Similarly, since FCEVs don’t need to lug around multiple large batteries, they’re lighter. For long trips, that means many FCEVs have longer ranges. A lighter vehicle with the same amount of power as a heavier one will accelerate faster too. It’s also helpful for really heavy transport vehicles, like buses or semis, since it means that they can carry more.
