As it comes around every October, Oktoberfest is once again returning to Old Town Winchester. As the 5th annual Oktoberfest celebration in the area, many people are excited to join in on the fun of the yearly event. So when is Oktoberfest 2017 in Winchester, VA? 

How did Oktoberfest Start? 

The origin of Oktoberfest actually dates back over 200 years to Bavaria in Germany. Oktoberfest began when Crown Prince Ludwig, later known as King Ludwig I, married Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen on Oct. 12, 1810.  

Today, Oktoberfest is celebrated throughout the world as a large celebration with German-inspired clothing, food, beverages, and more things that add to the rich German culture. At this year’s Oktoberfest in Winchester, attendees can participate in the best dressed lederhosen contest, dirndl contest, and even a beer stein holding competition.

The Old Town Winchester will also host a large beer and wine garden, filled with beverages from local breweries such as Winchester Brew Works, Alesatian, Escutcheon, Winchester Cider Works and more. This year’s event will also feature two pop rock bands, along with traditional polka and waltz bands, the Continentals and Bavarski.
