If you pull down on your steering wheel while you get in and out of your Honda vehicle, that’s why your steering wheel is locking. Here’s how to unlock it:

Try to turn wheel left and right until you feel the wheel move a bit
Pull the steering wheel in the direction the wheel moved
Hold the steering wheel in that direction
Try to start your Honda vehicle
If your vehicle starts, your steering wheel will be unlocked
If it doesn’t start, try turning the wheel the opposite direction and repeating the process. One of the two directions has to work.

Why Does the Steering Wheel Lock in the First Place?
You can intentionally lock your steering wheel by pulling it hard to the left or right. There are two reasons you can do so: theft deterrence and incline/decline parking fail-safe. If you are in an unfamiliar place, locking the steering wheel in place can make it much harder—or even impossible—for someone to steal your car. If you’ve parked on a hill, then activating the steering wheel lock by turning the wheel toward the curb can help stop your vehicle from moving if the brakes fail.
