How to Keep Your Car Clean of Coronavirus

Cleaning your car for coronavirus is straightforward; all it takes is soap and water. Make sure to scrub for at least 20 seconds and to focus on high-traffic areas. Viruses are made of proteins, much like oils. Anyone that has ever tried to clean up grease or other fatty substances will know that soap is the key. It also takes time. This is why washing your hands takes at least 20 seconds. And since COVID-19 is a virus, not a bacterium, anti-bacterial soaps are not necessary. So, make sure to take your time and scrub. Areas that you touch regularly, like the steering wheel, shifter, seat belt, or door handles, will require extra attention. If you want to take an extra precaution, disposable gloves are helpful, but not necessary.

Cleaning Electronics

When it comes to cleaning electronics, particularly touchscreens, soap and water is going to do more harm than good. Lathering up the window controls or the buttons on the steering wheel won’t have a much better result. The alternative is non-bleach disinfectant wipes (check out the EPA’s complete list of cleaners). Regular use of wipes should be avoided, however, due to too much exposure having the possibility to damage electrical systems. Every now and again is okay, though. The easiest way to keep electronics clean is to keep your hands clean, so wash your hands before driving and utilize hand sanitizer on drives with multiple stops.
