How Popular are SUVs Compared to Other Vehicles?

As the months and years go on, the tastes of drivers continually change. Each kind of vehicle, whether it is a sedan, SUV, truck or hybrid, offers its own perks to different kinds of drivers. While SUVs might be seen as a great balance of power, capability and convenience, just how popular are SUVs compared to other vehicles?

Throughout the first half of 2017, the Ford Motor Company noticed that sales of small, midsize and large SUV models have all increased. However, smaller SUVs received the lowest increase with just 4 percent growth, while midsize and large SUVs grew by 9 and 11 percent respectively.

In fact, Ford is predicting that sales for SUVs will continue to grow. The auto manufacturer is expecting all SUV sales to increase anywhere from 40 percent to more than 45 percent in the U.S. in the next five to seven years. This increase of SUVs could potentially mean an additional 850,000 SUVs are sold each year.

You might be asking yourself why there would be such a sudden increase like this. Ford commissioned a survey that discovered that many millennials are now starting to get married, have children and buy homes in the suburbs. Because of this, it is easy to see why SUVs have been becoming more popular, as these larger vehicles are able to accommodate comfortable seating for families, as well as offer plenty of features that are desirable for a family vehicle.
