Whether you have a rolling code or fixed code, the first steps are the same. You’ll need your current garage door remote for both types. If you have a rolling code garage door, then you may also need a stepping stool or a step ladder.

  1. Hold the garage door remote within 6” of your Honda vehicle’s HomeLink buttons
  2. Press and hold the HomeLink button you wish to program and the open button on your garage door remote
  3. Continue holding both buttons on each device until the HomeLink light flashes
  4. HomeLink light will either turn solid or flash rapidly

If HomeLink Light is Solid

If the HomeLink light turns solid, then you have a fixed code garage door. To finish the programming process, you’ll need to:

  1. Press the HomeLink button you are trying to program twice
  2. If the garage door opens or closes, you’ve successfully programmed your HomeLink opener

If HomeLink Light Flashes

If the HomeLink light started to flash, then you have a rolling code garage door. To finish the programming process, you’ll need to:

  1. Press the HomeLink button you are trying to program twice
  2. Exit your Honda vehicle and press your garage door motor’s Learn/Smart button once
  3. Return to your Honda within 30 seconds and press the HomeLink button you are trying to program three times
  4. If the garage door opens or closes, you’ve successfully programmed your HomeLink opener
