Keep your windshield clear this winter season
How do I change my windshield wipers myself?
You are going down the road when it begins to drizzle rain and a little bit of snow. Not a big deal, you simply turn on your windshield wipers. However, this creates a big smeary mess and it is very difficult for you to see through your windshield. It is time to change your windshield wipers! We have put together a brief guide below that answers the question, “how do I change my windshield wipers myself?”
When should I change my windshield wipers?
The biggest indicator of needing new windshield wipers is that you can no longer see out your windshield after you have turned on your wipers. Other things you should look for include the following:
- Your blades are streaking and not cleaning off your windshield
- There is a chattering sound when you turn on your wipers
- You see the rubber is worn out
- The blades are pulling away from the windshield instead of sitting snug

How do I change my windshield wipers?
Before you do anything with your windshield wipers, visit your trusted mechanic or auto body parts store. Know the exact make and model of your vehicle so that the person you are working with can give you the correct wipers that fit your windshield. Once you have the correct wipers, follow the steps below:
- Pull the arm off of your windshield and flip your blade so that it is perpendicular to the windshield
- Locate the tab that is holding the blade and arm together. Pull that tab.
- You should hear a snap. Then pull the wiper down towards the car.
- Please note that you will have a metal arm free at this point. Make sure that you do not let it go and potentially damage your windshield.
- You are now ready to attach the new wiper. Take the new wiper and put the arm through the appropriate hole. There should be a click when it is snapped in.
- Repeat this process for the other wiper. Finally, test them out!
