One of the biggest traditions in the Shenandoah area, the Winchester-Frederick-Clarke Civil War Weekend each year reminds the area of one of the most famous events in American history. Returning this month, the Civil War Weekend offers plenty of fun and exciting events to see and participate in for history buffs. So, let’s take a look at what’s in store for Civil War Weekend 2018 in Winchester, VA.  

Shenandoah Valley Civil War Weekend 2018 Events 

This year’s celebration will take place from Aug. 17-19, and will host plenty of excitement. Starting things off strong, the weekend kicks off at 2pm with a 2-hour tour of the Battle of Cedar Creek location. Later that night at 7pm, interested attendees can learn about how soldiers were treated during the war with the History at Sunset event.

  • Car Caravan Tour and Book Signing, 9-10:30am 
  • Car Caravan Tour, 9-11am 
  • Civil War Kids Camp, 10am-Noon 
  • Living History & Tours, 10am-4pm 
  • Battle of Cedar Creek in a Box, 11:30am 
  • Special Programs at Fort Collier, 1-5, 8-9pm 
  • Enslavement Program, 2:30pm 
  • Archaeology Program, 3-3:30pm 
  • Twilight Lanternlight Walking Tour, 7:30

Sunday is filled with its fair share of events as well, starting with the Presentations/Living History taking a look at some historic items from this time frame with reenactors from 11am-4pm. The popular Escape Rooms make an appearance as well with the “Saving Newtown” Escape Room ready for people at 1, 2 and 3pm. The Weekend then ends with one more “Battle of Cedar Creek in a Box” reenactment starting at 2:30pm.
