Warming Up an EV While It’s Plugged In: Can You Do It? Is It Safe?
There’s a lot of to stuff to learn when it comes to EVs. While there have been many different innovation over the past century when it comes to automobiles, their fuel source has remained (fundamentally) the same. For instance, you’re not supposed to start a car while it’s hooked up to the gas pump.
How about EVs? Can you start an electric vehicle while it’s plugged in?
Can you turn on an EV while it’s charging?
Yes, you can ‘start’ an EV while it’s hooked up to a charger. Systems that can operate while charging include the infotainment operation, automatic climate control, and a few others. As a safety measure, though, the drivetrain is disabled when your EV is plugged in to prevent damage to the vehicle, charger, and so on. But yes, if you want to run the heat of AC in your vehicle, listen to your favorite media, or enter some navigation directions, you can do so while your vehicle is charging.
