Can I Upgrade my Ford’s Connectivity Features?

Each year, many car manufacturers add in better features to their most popular models. However, when it comes to newer vehicles, the technologies being added to them are rapidly advancing. This makes it so models even just a few years old miss out on many convenient features seen in the newest vehicles. Now, thanks to Ford SmartLink, you can upgrade your Ford’s connectivity features without having to purchase a brand new Ford vehicle.

What is Ford SmartLink?

Ford SmartLink will allow drivers who own 2010-2016 model-year Ford and Lincoln vehicles access to a wide variety of features. These features include:

  • Smartphone-based remote start, lock and unlock
  • 4G Wi-Fi hotspot capable of accepting up to eight devices
  • Vehicle health alerts
  • Vehicle security alerts
  • Vehicle location assistance

“We are thrilled to offer this level of convenience and connectivity to our existing customers, extending the value of their vehicles and giving them just one more reason to love their Ford and Lincoln vehicles.”

– Raj Nair, executive vice president, Global Product Development, and chief technical officer

How to Connect Ford SmartLink to Your Vehicle

The Ford SmartLink development team has been working with Delphi Automotive and Verizon Telematics on the new technology for more than two years. Ford SmartLink includes a 4G LTE-enabled OBD II plug-in device, a companion App and Web Portal. The app and Web Portal are used to activate the remote features, receive alerts and schedule service appointments. Connecting the Ford SmartLink to your vehicle is also simple. All you need to do is plug the device into the OBD II port that is located below the steering wheel.

The Ford SmartLink will allow you to upgrade your older Ford’s connectivity features when the technology is made available at dealerships in the summer. If you have any questions about the Ford SmartLink technology, contact us at Miller’s CrossPointe Motor Cars. We also have many used Ford vehicles in stock that will be compatible with the Ford SmartLink.
