Popular Jazz Event Returns to Winchester

2018 Jazzathon and John Kirby Day Celebration Winchester VA 

Music has long been a big part of Virginia and the south. With plenty of great local musicians and great concerts to go see, there is always something new to experience. Now as we dive deeper into spring, more concerts, shows and festivals are coming to the Shenandoah area. Let’s take a look at the upcoming 2018 Jazzathon and John Kirby Day celebration in Winchester, VA.  

Later this week, the 2018 Jazzathon is returning to the area for its 26th annual year. Hosted by the Shenandoah Conservatory, this year’s event will start this Friday at 8pm, start up again early Saturday morning and conclude Saturday night. The 2018 Jazzathon will kick off with a performance by the Shenandoah Conservatory Little Big Band with guest artists Tom Williams and Charlie Young, as plenty of artists will perform throughout the Jazzathon. Funds raised from the event will go to support local artists and students, along with opening up traveling opportunities for various performing groups.

Also hosted by the Shenandoah Conservatory, the NAACP of Winchester and Old Town Winchester is the celebration of John Kirby Day. For those who don’t know, John Kirby was a famous jazz musician born in Winchester who played the double bass and recorded hits such as “Loch Lomond” and “Undecided.”
