Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)

What is the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), and how does it work? The Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assist technologies includes the CMBS™ feature. However, what exactly are driver-assistive features? To assist with driver awareness, this technology employs a slew of cameras, sensors, and radar. Honda’s CMBS™ can assist you in bringing your vehicle to a halt by applying the brakes automatically if the system determines that a collision is unavoidable. Read this blog by CrossPointe Motor Cars to learn all about the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) by Honda here at Winchester, VA!

How Does CMBS™ Work?

CMBS™ can assess the distance and closing speed of obstacles ahead of you thanks to a radar transmitter located in the front grille trim. If the radar and high-resolution camera identify another vehicle or a pedestrian in front of the automobile, both visual and audible alerts will be issued. If you do not respond instantly, the system will apply the brakes automatically.

Stages when danger is detected

When a prospective collision is imminent, CMBS™ launches three steps or levels of response. These stages are as follows:

  1. Visual and audible alerts warn you of an impending obstruction in front of your car.
  2. The brakes are used lightly to slow the vehicle down and prevent a collision.
  3. The brakes are slammed on hard in order to reduce your speed substantially.

What is the procedure for adjusting the Honda CMBS™ distance setting?

Follow the steps below to change the distance setting of your CMBS™:

  1. Ensure the vehicle is in PARK
  2. From the home screen, select Settings
  3. Select Vehicle
  4. Select Driver Assist System Setup
  5. Then Select Forward Collision Warning Distance
  6. Select Long, Normal, or Short
  7. Press Back to exit the menu

How to turn off CMBS™?

Although Honda does not advocate turning off CMBS, drivers who want to disable this Honda Sensing technology can do so. To disable CMBS™, press and hold the CMBS™ button on the left side of the steering wheel until you hear a beep and a confirmation message appears on the vehicle’s Driver Information Interface. CMBS™ will now remain off till the ignition is off. However, keep in mind that CMBS™ will be turned on by default the next time you start your Honda vehicle.
