The new eighth-generation infotainment system by BMW is supposedly far better than its predecessor the seventh-generation iDrive 7. It has a better user interface, cloud-based machine learning, and a more natural voice recognition system. Following are some of the key changes in the new iDrive 8-

The BMW ID

BMW ID is an intelligent machine-learning system that keeps track of repetitive patterns, learns from them, and suggests how to use certain functions better catered to your needs. Along with this, there is a fully customizable “my modes” function that allows the drivers to customize settings and features per their wishes.

The iDrive rotary

Although in the iDrive 8, the actual screen has been made touch-sensitive, the classic iDrive rotary controller still remains. There is also a dedicated volume knob and some touch-capacitive buttons that are far more convenient than the touchscreens.

Massive LCD display

The new generation of iDrive offers the largest screen ever mounted in a BMW. It is a whopping 14.9-inches ultra-high-resolution widescreen with bright colorful graphics. The best part is the ergonomic center screen is merged with the 12.3-inch instrument panel making it look like one giant screen.

Along with this, the head-up display still remains behind the instrument panel, almost hidden from the view. Its graphics have improved substantially. The new iDrive 8 system also has Bluetooth®, Apple CarPlay®, and Android Auto™ connectivity. It is also compatible with 5G mobile technology. It is also speculated that additional third-party apps for communication and music streaming are now integrated within the system, too.
