Which 2027 Honda Passport Trim Is Right for You? RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite Compared
Pricing for the 2027 Honda Passport starts at $45,195 for the RT-L, $49,995 for the TrailSport and $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite. Two factory versions sit between them: the RT-L Towing (+$700 for a Class III hitch) and Blackout (+$1,500 on either TrailSport). Every version has the same 280-hp V6, 10-speed automatic, all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb towing rating and full Honda Sensing. What $4,800 more buys on the TrailSport is trail hardware; what another $3,700 buys on the Elite is cabin comfort.
In the Shenandoah Valley, the Passport trim question is about mountains and winter. Every trim has all-wheel drive and hill descent control. The TrailSport adds the clearance, tires and skid plates for George Washington National Forest roads.

Which 2027 Passport Trim Is Right for You?
Answer five questions and we'll recommend a trim and link you to what's in stock.
What Changes for the Worse as You Step Up
Moving up a trim isn't purely additive. Here's what changes for the worse, so there are no surprises after you sign.
RT-L ? TrailSport
- Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
- A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
- Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
- Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
- Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
- Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).
TrailSport ? TrailSport Elite
- Orange ambient lighting. The Elite switches to white (it keeps the orange steering-wheel stitching).
- Matte Shark Gray wheels, swapped for Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- 29 lbs of curb weight (4,705 vs. 4,676). Nothing functional is lost.
Standard ? Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
What's New on the 2027 Passport
A taller TrailSport
TrailSport trims ride on a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance (the RT-L has 8.3 in.) and improved approach, breakover and departure angles over the 2026 TrailSport.
A new TrailSport face
Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
Elite features move down
The TrailSport now includes TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, both previously reserved for the TrailSport Elite.
Darker Blackout
Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.
Smoke Blue Pearl
A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.
Pricing
MSRP rises $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
The Five Passport Matchups Shoppers Ask About
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
The $700 difference is the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Every Passport is rated for 5,000 lbs, but towing takes hitch equipment, and the Towing version arrives with it. If towing to the Shenandoah River is part of your summer, it's the simpler route.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
$4,100 apart, and both have a factory hitch. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates and TrailWatch, plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, the gray interior option and better highway mileage.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
This $3,700 step buys comfort only: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Both have the same off-road hardware. If you spend hot afternoons in the car, the ventilated seats are the deciding feature.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
These are $2,200 apart, and they answer different questions: do you want the darker look (Blackout) or the nicer cabin (Elite)?
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
$1,500 for black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. The equipment list is otherwise identical, so this is purely about the look.

What to Check on a Winchester Passport Test Drive
A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.
- Merge onto I-81 or US-50 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
- Ask us to demo TrailWatch and the Multi-View Camera System in the lot. It's most useful nosing into a tight trailhead or a steep driveway.
- If you can, take both trims toward Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- Fold the rear seat and load what you really carry. There's 44 cu ft behind the second row.
- Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
2027 Passport Trims: Frequently Asked
What are the 2027 Honda Passport trim levels?
The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. There are also two factory versions: the RT-L Towing, which adds a Class III hitch to the RT-L, and a Blackout package for the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite.
How much is a fully loaded 2027 Passport?
The top version, the TrailSport Elite Blackout, is $55,195 MSRP. The lineup starts at $45,195 for the RT-L. Add $1,595 destination and $455 for premium paint.
Is the Passport TrailSport worth it over the RT-L?
If you'll leave pavement or tow, usually yes. For $4,800 more it adds 9.6 in. of clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch, a factory hitch, a moonroof, a heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. You give up real leather, a gray interior option and 1 mpg combined.
What does the TrailSport Elite add over the TrailSport?
Perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, a 700-watt 12-speaker Bose system, second-row climate controls, a hands-free power liftgate with walk away close, rain-sensing wipers, rear-door sunshades and acoustic front-door glass. It costs $3,700 more, and the off-road hardware is the same.
Do I need the RT-L Towing to tow with a Passport?
Not necessarily, but it's the RT-L that comes with a factory Class III hitch and harness ($700 more). The TrailSport and TrailSport Elite include a hitch as standard.
Is the Passport Blackout just cosmetic?
Yes. For $1,500 you get black wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes; features and capability match the non-Blackout trim.
Is the 2027 Passport AWD or 4WD?
All-wheel drive. Every trim uses Honda's i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD with Trail Torque Logic; there's no two-wheel-drive version.
How much can the 2027 Honda Passport tow?
Every 2027 Passport is rated to tow up to 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite come with a factory Class III hitch. Premium fuel is recommended when towing more than 3,500 lbs.
